AIAA Design Competition Fundraising A Project of Ignite 2018
We are UConn AIAA, the student branch of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics! AIAA is a national professional organization dedicated to aerospace engineering and technology. This year, we are participating in TWO aerospace design competitions, where we are building a Rocket and a Model Space Exploration Vehicle.
The CanSat design competition is an annual design-build-launch competition created by AIAA and AAS (American Astronautical Society). The competition involves the design, construction, and testing of a science vehicle to be launched on a sounding rocket intended to simulate a robotic interplanetary atmosphere entry. The UConn CanSat team must design this science vehicle to fit inside a container approximately the size of an Arizona can.
The Rocketry team is competing in the Spaceport America Cup. The goal of this competition is to launch a sounding rocket to 30,000 feet! The rocket will be propelled by a UConn student-built solid fuel motor. The team has recently tested the motor design in a static burn at an event in Durham, CT hosted by the Tripoli Rocketry Association. Now the team plans to travel to a Maryland Delaware Rocketry Association launch.
The CanSat Team plans to go to Texas and the Rocketry team to Spaceport America in White Sands, New Mexico this year for their competitions. We need YOUR assistance so we can represent UConn on the national collegiate level for Aerospace competitions! Every donation goes directly to sending the UConn logo blazing into the sky!
If we raise more money than we need, the additional funds will be put towards next year's competitions. If we do not reach our goal, the funds will be still be used for this year's competitions, but we will prioritize supplies over travel expenses.
